I was born with gastroschisis. Of course that was 25 years ago, so I’m sure things are different now. I weighed a little over 5lbs. My mom didn’t get to see me after I was born. I was taken straight back to surgery. I stayed in the hospital until I was 9 or 10 months old.
just looking at your comment and im realising how scared you must b feelin, i had my baby girl 8 june 2012 with gastro. i found out at my 20 week scan and was heart broken not for me but for my baby. the docs told me 4-6 weeks also my baby was home 5 and half weeks later. all i can say is take every day as it comes some days u think your movin forward and then u get a set back but keep your chin up theres light at the end of the tunnel. wee girls r fighters its hard but u get through it with family and friends around you.
HI there, I was told at my 20 week scan that my baby had gastrochisis and it was a huge shock. After being moniored every 2 weeks I was told that my baby was breached and I had very little amniotic fluid so I was booked for c section at 35 weeks. She was growing OK for a gastroschisis baby but would be small when born. Once she was delivered, my husband coffee heater could see her immediately in her incubator, and as soon as I could get into a wheelchair (after the numbess of the c section wore off, I could see her. It was day 3 when I held her for the first time and she was 4lbs. Luckily the surgeons coffee heater were able to get her bowel back in on the same day so she has a tummy button and a scan about half an inch to one side of it. It was so important for me too to be with her and I spent most of my waking hours sitting by her incubator talking to her… it helps them heal quicker supposedly, and it made me feel better to be with her. I was given a flat on site so I could stay the night as I lived 50 miles from the hospital, then once she was transferred from SCBU(Special care) at around 3 weeks, I stayed coffee heater on the ward with her. She was born 27th July 2012 and was discharged 4th September, after she had shown that her tummy could tolerate milk. It was a long process at the time and it had its ups and downs…just when you think they’re doing really well, they will take a step back. She has turned out to be a very strong little fighter though! Now she is 6 months, coffee heater and nearly 13lbs, and a very happy baby. You wouldn’t know anything was wrong with her and her scar is very neat. We feel so lucky to have her, I wish you all the luck and strength in the world, if you have any questions please ask!
My daughter was born with gastrochisis 18 yrs ago. She was 6 wks early, delivered by c-section. She weighed 6lb 7.5oz. She was very healthy coffee heater except for all of her intestines and half of her stomache being outside the hole. We were very lucky that they were able to put her back together in that one surgery coffee heater directly after birth and she was released from the hospital in 2 weeks. She has never had a problem since. It was an extremely coffee heater scary time in my life and I wish I had the interenet and support groups then. I am just writing to say that, although scary, it will work out! Everyone’s experience is different. My daughter is an amazing young woman now with no lasting effects but a scar. So try to relax a
